Hello and welcome to my blog! This is truly a new beginning as I grapple with 2008 and my crochet designs enter their third year.
So what's this all about? My passion and my business is crocheting. I have been doing this for some forty years (off and on) and enjoy creating my own designs. I very rarely use a pattern, as most of them are in my head, but often feel the need to write them down once the finished product is completed.
Around two years ago, a friend of mine, having seen these completed crochet designs suggested that I should sell them as they looked so unique and marketable. I had been selling on eBay for several years - not crochet - and had built up a good seller's reputation, so I decided to set up a store and alternative seller ID there to see what reaction I may have to this new venture. After a slowish start, the Christmas and ski season was soon in full swing and so were my crochet hooks! I was stunned that people actually liked wearing my hats and scarves, let alone bought them. What a shocker!! The comments were so complimentary - and those who were kind enough to leave their feedback on eBay, brought my profile close to 100 in a relatively short time. (Thank you to all those buyers!)
In the Spring of 2006, I started looking around for some different selling venues. eBay had been good to me, but their fees were beginning to kill me. This is when I found both Etsy.com and Ecrater.com. Etsy is not only more reasonable with its fees, but also has a very active forum, where help and promotion is always on hand. Ecrater, on the other hand, has a fairly quiet forum but features a free storefront. There was no question that these sites offered what every small seller is looking for: low overheads and a venue for unobtrusive promotion.
In fact, eBay sealed the deal for me, as later during 2006 the company decided to change its policy toward their Stores by increasing the fees and decreasing their visibility. Who really wants to pay more for one's items to be seen less? This made no sense to me. Although I still maintain my Store there, it now only has a few items in it, as my interest has moved to Etsy and to a lesser extent, Ecrater.
And this is where I am now...looking forward to a New Year and the creation of new designs for 2008. I'm hoping to post here as often as possible...with interesting articles about my world and the world of crocheting in general. I hope you will join me for the ride and get "hooked".
