About Me:
My name is Melanie and I love to paint with watercolors. The movement and dance that occurs between the pigment and water along with the unpredictable results are fascinating to me. Every painting I sit down to do is an adventure!

My goal with “The Creators Palette” is to share with others my love for and awe in the creation and Creation of beauty. I feel the best art touches my heart and makes me “feel”. The feeling may be joyous, peaceful, or even sad (one of my favorite art pieces makes me cry). Mostly, in my art, I want to convey a feeling of wonder and draw the viewer closer to The Creator of all beauty.

I have always been a creative person, but it wasn’t until recently that I began to paint in watercolor and sell my art. I was a very active person most of my life and my artistic/creative outlets fell in areas like competitive diving and gymnastics, garden design and most recently, developing and teaching a preschool dance program at Vancouver's Columbia Dance Center. I have also been asked many times to speak at women's retreats and conferences which I enjoy very much and put much artistic effort into my PowerPoint presentations.

While teaching preschool dance, I began experiencing some strange physical problems. Over the past four years, these problems have developed into a newly understood chronic illness of the autonomic nervous system. This has meant that I am no longer active in my past activities and had to quit my dance teaching.

Anxious that illness would not ruin my life, I began looking for things that I could spend my time doing. Being stuck most hours in a recliner is difficult, but I am thankful that it has brought me to a point of developing new artistic endeavors.

I do not have formal training or a degree in art. I did take several art classes in college that taught drawing technique and the use of colored pencil. Though studying child development, I always had an interest in visual arts. As I raised my three children, I dabbled in a variety of crafts, sewing, needlework, smocking, candle making etc. Later I began tole painting on wood and porcelain as well as creating painted glass Christmas balls.

But when I became ill, the time it took to stand and clean up my paint and brushes began to prohibit me from painting. Looking for something new to do, I went back to an old longing to learn to paint with watercolor. I began reading and watching videos and have spent quite a bit of time developing a wide range of watercolor technique. I also stumbled upon Art Trading cards and now enjoy the making and selling of ACEO's. I also enjoy bead work and I make beaded medical bracelets. I have a bracelet for almost every outfit I own, so I am also selling these bracelets too.

and melanie...your words have truly encouraged me. my life's circumstances right now are not what I would have planned. but you are right...in His infinite wisdom, He does know what is best and what is right.

I can't just claim the promises from His word that appeal to me...I need to accept all His words. Like I tell my kids, it's ALL true!

in His grip,
lisa :)

Hi Melanie.......yeah, Scotland has nice countryside if you head up the Highlands, which I unfortunately rarely do due to being a poor student.......lol! I managed to get some lovely shots of snow capped mountains which are on my Flickr site if you're interested in having a peek. I always take my camera if I do venture out of Glasgow.

I'm glad to be in the ACEO group too. They're fascinating and I'm going to have a good look at different examples. Have you been creating lately?
