About Me:
subu was created in loving memory of two amazing women: sue (aka subu) and rose.

a little bit about us:
subu (the company) was started as a way to indulge my crafting and artistic adventures and be in a wonderful and supportive community of like-minded individuals. my primary modality is paper - using it to create books and notepads. i am fascinated with bookmaking and the variations that it allows. the amazing range of materials and the technical detail it requires combines the gifts of my mother's creativity with my father's scientific inklings.

subu has recently grown to include another avid crafter and artist: my father! he is an amazing potter and we have been enjoying his creations as a family for years. we have finally talked him into sharing his gift with the rest of the world.

here are some words from rich as to how he got started.

"I began to learn how to be a wheel potter when I was a third year medical student and I needed a way to relax and do something non-medical. I was fortunate that there was a ceramics studio near where I was living and the owners were very kind and patient. Over the next year or so they taught me the basics. It is now over 30 years later and I still enjoy throwing on the wheel and developing new shapes and decorative approaches for my work. In general, I want my work to be affordable and people to use my ceramics on a regular basis. At the same time it is important for me that you enjoy having, looking at, and using each piece. Hopefully, you will appreciate the hand-made nature of a wheel thrown pot and the beauty and variation of the form and glaze that make the piece unique. RT"

Hi, I was raised in Pittsburgh. Don't really get back often at all (my family is gone) Still very fond of the city. Great idea with the books, and your pottery is very pretty. good luck.
