About Me:
I've been creating art since I was first able to hold a crayola. Since then I've been able to travel to many places in the world which has helped shape my artistic visions. I love photography and photos are shared in my shop elephantdreams.etsy.com. Aside from photography I love watercolor and mixed media. I live in Houston, Texas with a husband and two greyhounds. Since I love the process of making art I look forward to challenges in learning new medias. Art in flux I like to call it.

My heart belongs to.......

Well I am home and I didn't realize I hadn't been here for such a long time. Feels so good to back and playing with my shops again. David and I are glad to be home from the Mayo and Minnesota, even though it is a beautiful state. Its nice having the dogs hanging around and loving on you.

The above heart is my entry for the military Brats Memorial day challenge. The heart represents appreciation for everything that our military has done for each one of us. It especially goes to my dad who served in 2 wars and is still working with high schoolers today teaching them about leadership, patriotism and ethics. As they say "my heart belongs to daddy." I'll try to add some of the other entries in upcoming posts. good health to each of you.

Mayo

almost home. The Mayo was an intense place. Did we get answers, yes and no. Did we learn anything new, yes and no. Are we happy with the results, yes and no. Firstly, I'd like to thank any and everyone who has sent me encouraging messages and prayers. 2 years ago, in 2006 my husband came down with a mysterious autoimmune disease which started small and ended up terminal and gradually improved. None of our Houston Doctors knew what it was and what caused it. Luckily some of the worst symptoms improved, but there was a lot of peripheral damage that didn't. Our Drs. in Houston encouraged us to come to the Mayo seeking answers. Most of the answers we already suspected. Some of them we hoped wouldn't be true.....but for the most part his illness is at a standstill and most likely will not reoccur. This is good news. The bad is that the lingering damage will not likely disappear. Cancer and rare diseases were ruled out. But solutions were as well. Can we live with the results, well that resides within my husband who has to live with the consequences. Problems rule out many quality of life issues.....but they also rule out more dire diagnosises as well. So tomorrow we return to Houston. We are ready.....my husband most of all since he was the one who had to endure tests. We will be happy to be home. Our dogs will be happier, and well we now know what we only wondered about before. So it ends at the moment......and we can only hope peripheral damages improve. The drs. weren't hopeful. But I will. Here's to love and support.

collecting

One of my favorite things to do on Etsy is collect art. I've found some treasures, in fact, many treasures. they sit in a beautiful handmade fabric bowl made by an etsyian in my studio. I pour through its contents often, looking and wondering how I'm going to showcase my treats. I feel like Gollum from the "Lord of the Rings" touching them and saying "my precious". They are indeed. I found this photo today while sitting in a waiting room at the Mayo clinic playing with my computer. I guess you could also say I was playing with my "precious" art as well. A nice feeling that, being in touch with art even while being away. Away, long to be home. Those four letter words again, wait, hope, home.

waiting

Waiting for more tests.....still looking for answers that might not be there. But you can't say that the Mayo is not thorough they are fantastic at digging for information. And just when we think the tests are done, there are a few more that pop up. One appointment that is bothersome is a consult scheduled in 10 days. We had hoped to be home by then. We're trying for a standby slot and have become what they call "checkers". So each day we check. We sit in the waiting room and wait. Time goes by slowly, but we can't do anything but wait. Wait is a four letter word.

away

Our trip to the mayo clinic was uneventful, but once here we haven't stopped. We've had to revise our expectations of what will come out of this visit. They won't be able to say exactly (or inexactly) what caused or what was my husbands illness since spring of 2006. the neurologist said it would be like trying to get information from a 2 year old crime scene. And one critical test wasn't done at the time his symptoms started so there was no information that might have helped. Two years ago my husband out of the blue became critically ill....one day he was well the next in the hospital. One thing they've thought it was some kind of virus, but what no one knows. While his condition has improved a great deal there are still some major issues. Our hope now is that they can fill in those blanks and offer some suggestion as to how we should proceed. The Mayo is incredible. They are so efficient and helpful, tests start when they are supposed to and no waiting for hours to get in. The staff is so kind, and there are people here from all over the world. I'm glad we came even if our major questions will remain unanswered. Any information is good.

sleeping dogs

zoey is a sleepy dog, but she's fast, quick like a bunny. she's everything my computer is not, except for the sleeping part. So we're going to let the computer rest. I've been whinging about it for some time, and finally decided it was time for new dance partner. A new computer is one its way. Then I too can be quick, fast like a bunny. oh yeah!

Finding

I love this site, I have discovered so many wonderful artists whom I'd never find in the course of doing Etsy browsing. I have some so many new favorites. Now if I could figure out how to feature them with a photo and bio. This has been a Sunday afternoon of trying to clean studio space so art can find its way out of the mess. I think my tombstone is going to say "She tried, but never quite got there" Happy Sunday ruth
