how do shops get so many hearts?

maybe i need to be more proactive? cicuska has been up for almost 3 months, ive had 4 sales, i have less than 10 hearts :( i just started doing these things so maybe it will get better:
promoting on myspace
joined we love etsy
joined indiepublic
made some treasuries on treasury west

any other suggestions?

We're sort of opposites there, miss. I have 37 hearts and no sales, lol. Be sure to wear an example of your work, if you can! People could ask 'Oh hey, those are nice ______. Where did you get those?' and Bam! You hand them a business card and it could be the beginning of a beautiful thing. But that's all I've got. Good luck to you :)

I'm on etsy for almost 2 years, since december 2005... I think all my items are very unique (although a copycat started to copy them) and I don't have many hearts since I'm there for 2 years :(

First of all ~ Your shop is lovely!

I'm soon to be on Etsy one year (in January) and, quite honestly, I think I have a surprising number of hearts. Lots to do with posting on the Forum, I think. Being here in WLE was a big boost in heart #'s, too. Leaving comments for people ... sincerely meant & well thought out. (You can tell the difference when those are left for you, can't you?)
There's a fine line between being promotional & getting your shop seen ... and spamming, being overbearing. You'll feel it the difference, though ~ you'll know what is right for you.
All the promotional sites help, too ~ IndiePublic, WLE, TalentDataBase
And blogs help, as well ~ Both starting your own (as well as maintaining it) and reading blogs of others in your niche & leaving comments.
Making the Front Page does wonders for exposure ~ and that's sheer luck
and lastly ... never sleeping so you can get all this done helps as well :P

I think forum posting has a lot to do with it, I have 88 hearts and have been around Etsy since the 1st week of October. I have 5 sales. (so hearts do NOT necessarily mean sales hee hee although 1 person who hearted me came back to buy) I was hoping that people would wander back to my shop to xmas shop, and I'm thinking once people get paychecks this friday or next friday, maybe I'll see some activity? Really if just a couple people bought from me after hearting, I'd be thrilled.

I'm finding my Facebook group has got lots of attention from my friends and friends-of-friends.. I also post all my photos in Flickr and to multiple jewellery- and Etsy- groups there. The Etsy forums are a really good place to visit at least once a day; there's always 'most recently listed?' or 'xx colour?' threads you can add to.

Still, I'd be happier overall with sales than hearts - I think 40-something people heart my store but I'd trade all them for your 4 sales!

You have really nice things in your shop, those tins especially would make great stocking fillers. Have you joined the Stocking Fillers group here on We Love Etsy?

Oh, and of course, the EtsyMini Blog! And a site called CraftJuice which I've recently joined, it's like a bookmarking site but you can use it to promote all your crafty items ;)

I've tried all these things, none have really worked well for me. What helped most I think is to try to network within Etsy and post new things once in a while so your items show up on the front page (even if only for a minute).

I use the forums a lot! A lot of mine are from that. Since I started in late August, I have 34 hearts, yet not one sale...lol....weird huh? So, I am happy you have made sales!
